Undefeated vs. Winless; Dallas Set to Host Columbus

by Ethan Berch

ARLINGTON, TX – April 9, 2026 – The Dallas Renegades are off to an incredible start in the Rick Neuheisel era and now return home to host the Columbus Aviators, who are still searching for their first win in their inaugural season. For Dallas, this marks their third consecutive home game.

Storylines to watch:

Columbus Aviators

The Aviators have struggled out of the gate, falling to Orlando and DC to open the season. Now, they face one of the top teams in the UFL and a difficult road test.

Despite the 0-2 start, there are some encouraging signs. Columbus has been able to move the ball, totaling 315 yards in Week One and 282 in Week Two.

On paper, that production is solid. But a deeper look tells a different story, they ran 66 plays to reach 282 yards in Week Two, averaging just 3.3 yards per pass. They’ve been able to grind out drives, largely due to a solid rushing attack, but have yet to generate consistent explosive plays. The weapons are there, the question is whether they can unlock them against a high-level defense.

One clear strength has been red zone efficiency. Columbus went a perfect 4-for-4 in the red zone last week against a DC defense that held its previous opponent to just 1-for-6. When the Aviators get inside the 20, they finish. The challenge this week will be getting there often enough, and keeping pace with the league’s highest-scoring offense.

Turnovers and explosive plays allowed have ultimately been the difference. An early fumble set the tone in Week One, and Columbus has now lost the turnover battle in both games, including four giveaways last week. Each mistake has proven costly.

Defensively, they’ve also struggled to limit big plays. They allowed 9.9 yards per pass attempt in Week One, and in Week Two surrendered 229 rushing yards as the defense wore down over time. Against a Dallas team built on explosive offense, that’s a dangerous trend.

Dallas Renegades

There’s little debate, Dallas has been the most explosive team in the UFL through two weeks. They handled Houston and St. Louis with ease, outscoring them 67-32 and controlling both games from start to finish.

Quarterback Austin Reed has been at the center of it all. In Week One, he threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns, earning Offensive Player of the Week honors. He followed it up with another dominant performance, throwing for 240 yards and a UFL single-game record four touchdown passes against one of the league’s top defenses.

Receiver Tyler Vaughns has matched that production with a historic start of his own. The 2025 All-UFL selection hauled in 11 receptions for 146 yards and three touchdowns last week, all single-game regular season records. After scoring four touchdowns all of last season, Vaughns has already matched that total and leads the league comfortably with 290 receiving yards.

Dallas has also controlled games with tempo and physicality. They held the ball for 37 minutes in Week One and followed it up with over 32 minutes of possession in Week Two. This isn’t just a quick-strike offense, they can methodically move the ball, stay on schedule, and dictate the pace. That balance makes them especially dangerous.

Defensively, the Renegades have been just as impactful. Through two games, they’ve forced four interceptions and consistently created momentum-shifting plays. They don’t just get stops, they capitalize on mistakes.

They’ve also been dominant on third down, holding opponents to just a 20% conversion rate (4-for-20). Pair that with a strong run defense and a consistent ability to force turnovers, and it creates a difficult formula for opposing offenses to overcome.

X-Factor:

If Austin Reed and the Dallas offense get going early, especially with limited pressure, this game could get out of hand quickly.

If Columbus can protect the football, stay on schedule, and limit explosive plays, they have a path to hang around and potentially pull off the upset.
