Kings Seek First Win in Historic Thursday Night Clash Against Houston

by Ethan Berch

ARLINGTON, TX – April 14, 2026 – Louisville will travel to Houston for the first Thursday Night Football game in UFL history. The Kings are seeking their first-ever victory, while the Gamblers are looking to solve some issues and get back on track.

Storylines to watch:

Louisville Kings

The Kings are coming off a thrilling overtime loss to the Orlando Storm and will look to finally break through in Week Four.

Despite their 0-3 record, Louisville has quietly fielded one of the league’s most productive offenses. The Kings lead the UFL in passing offense with 261 yards per game and rank third in total offense with over 300 yards per contest. In last week’s loss to Orlando, Louisville piled up 438 total yards, including 352 passing yards from quarterback Jason Bean.

Bean delivered his best performance of the season, tossing three touchdowns while leading the offense with confidence. Perhaps most encouraging for Louisville was the emergence of its run game, as Benny Snell Jr. rushed for a season-high 50 yards.

Still, the biggest issue for the Kings has been turning yards into points. Despite moving the football well, Louisville is averaging just 16.3 points per game through three weeks.

Against the UFL’s worst-ranked defense, Louisville has a prime opportunity to finally put everything together offensively.

Defensively, the Kings have been one of the league’s more consistent units. Louisville ranks fourth in the UFL, allowing just 299.7 yards per game, and surrendered only 17 points per game through the first two weeks of the season.

The Kings also feature playmakers all over the field. Cam Gill leads the UFL with 3.5 sacks, while Jaheim Thomas ranks second in the league with 25 total tackles.

The major question entering Week Four remains simple: can Louisville establish enough of a run game to complement its passing attack? If so, the Kings could create major problems for Houston’s defense.

Houston Gamblers

It will be a short week for both teams, but especially for Houston which is coming off a Saturday loss to the DC Defenders.

The Gamblers’ biggest issue entering Week Four is clear: defense.

Houston ranks last in the UFL in total defense, allowing 341.7 yards per game, and also owns the league’s worst scoring defense at 33.7 points allowed per contest.

Their best defensive showing came in Week Two against Birmingham, when they held the Stallions to 20 points in an upset victory. In that game, Houston forced multiple turnovers and flashed the formula needed to win football games.

Up front, Malik Fisher has led the charge. He is tied for second in the UFL with three sacks and will be tasked with disrupting Louisville’s dangerous passing game on Thursday night.

Another major storyline for Houston remains at quarterback.

Taulia Tagovailoa started in Week Three due to injuries to Hunter Dekkers and Nolan Henderson. Making his first start just two weeks after signing with the team, Tagovailoa struggled as Houston managed only seven points in a blowout loss.

If Henderson and Dekkers remain sidelined, Houston may once again turn to Tagovailoa in what would be another difficult assignment against Louisville’s stout defense.

X-Factor:

The Kings have built their offense around Jason Bean and the aerial game, while Houston has consistently struggled to defend through the air.

Houston’s quarterback situation is equally critical. If the Gamblers are once again forced into a backup quarterback situation, keeping pace offensively could become a major challenge.
