Orlando Looking to Bounce Back in Houston for Mother’s Day Clash

by Ethan Berch

ARLINGTON, TX – May 7, 2026 – The Orlando Storm and Houston Gamblers are set to celebrate Mother’s Day on the gridiron this weekend. Orlando enters looking to rebound after back-to-back losses, while Houston is desperate for a victory as it tries to remain within striking distance of a postseason berth.

Storylines to watch:

Orlando Storm

After opening the season 4-0, the Storm have suddenly dropped two straight to the Battlehawks and Stallions. Now, Orlando heads to Houston searching for a get-right performance before momentum slips any further.

A major opportunity this weekend is establishing the rushing attack. Orlando features one of the league’s top backs in Jashaun Corbin, and he draws a favorable matchup against a Houston defense that has struggled to slow the run.

The Gamblers are allowing over 100 rushing yards per game entering Week Seven, while Corbin ranks second in the UFL with 292 rushing yards. If Orlando wants to reset the tone offensively, this feels like the week to lean on Corbin early and often.

Through the air, Jack Plummer is coming off a 324-yard, two-touchdown performance against Birmingham. He also has no shortage of weapons, with Elijhah Badger, Chris Rowland, and KJ Hamler all ranking among the top ten in receiving yards across the league.

With Cam Camper also emerging as another option, Plummer could be in line for another productive afternoon against the UFL’s third-worst pass defense.

The biggest key for Orlando, however, may simply be protecting the football. Last week, the Storm committed three turnovers, all fumbles, including two on snaps. Before that, they had turned it over just once all season. Orlando will hope last week was more of an outlier than the start of a trend.

Defensively, Houston has dealt with injuries and uncertainty at quarterback. Whoever lines up under center for the Gamblers will need to deal with an Orlando front capable of creating havoc.

Keshawn Banks has led the charge, pacing the league in tackles for loss with eight while ranking second in sacks with 4.5. If Orlando can collapse the pocket and force rushed decisions, it could control the game on that side of the ball.

Houston Gamblers

Despite a 2-4 start, Houston sits just one game out of a playoff spot. The path is still there, but time is running short, and the Gamblers need to start stacking wins immediately.

Even against a strong Orlando defense, Houston must stay committed to its identity and run the football. Marcus Yarns and Jalen White headline one of the league’s better backfields, with both ranking inside the top ten in rushing yards.

That challenge is steep against an Orlando run defense ranked second in the UFL in rushing yards allowed per game, but Houston cannot afford to become one-dimensional. Staying patient on the ground gives the Gamblers their best chance to create explosive plays and stay on schedule offensively.

Whoever gets the start at quarterback also needs to get the ball into the hands of Houston’s playmakers. Justin Hall and Jontre Kirklin remain two key weapons, especially in obvious passing situations where conversions will be critical.

Both have had productive seasons, but a breakout performance from either could be the difference in a game Houston needs badly.

The other path to an upset may be creating takeaways. Orlando was thrown off schedule last week by three turnovers in an uncharacteristically sloppy outing. The Storm have otherwise been one of the league’s most efficient teams.

If Houston can force another giveaway or two, steal possessions, and create short fields, it could swing momentum in a hurry.

X-Factor:

Can Houston keep the passing game steady enough to stay balanced, or will Orlando’s pressure break the game open?
