Defenders, Kings Set for United Bowl Presented by Credit One Bank
by Ethan Berch
ARLINGTON, TX – June 10, 2026 – The Louisville Kings and DC Defenders are set to meet in the 2026 United Bowl presented by Credit One Bank this Saturday at Audi Field. Louisville enters as the hottest team in the UFL, winners of five straight, while the Defenders will attempt to defend their title in front of a home crowd.
The Kings stunned DC with back-to-back victories during the regular season, victories that helped spark Louisville's remarkable turnaround while sending the Defenders into a late-season skid. Now, with a championship on the line, Louisville seeks a season sweep while DC looks to finally solve the Kings.
How They Got Here:
DC Defenders
The Defenders are back in the title game with an opportunity to capture back-to-back championships. Their path, however, was far from straightforward.
After opening the season 5-1, DC dropped four consecutive games and lost its starting quarterback for the season. Enter Jason Bean.
Bean helped steady the offense and delivered his best performance of the year in the semifinal victory over Orlando. The Defenders converted 10-of-16 third downs after managing just six conversions on 23 attempts during Weeks Nine and Ten combined.
DC controlled the game from start to finish, out-gaining Orlando 405-273 and rushing for 172 yards behind Deon Jackson and Abram Smith. The defense was equally dominant, limiting MVP finalist Jack Plummer and consistently disrupting the league's most explosive offense. Derick Roberson delivered the game's defining play, recording a fourth-down sack at the goal line to preserve a crucial stop.
After leading the UFL in sacks during the regular season, the Defenders will once again look to generate pressure against Louisville quarterback Chandler Rogers.
Matt McCrane added the finishing touch with a 61-yard four-point field goal, helping send DC back to the United Bowl Presented by Credit One Bank. As the fourth seed, the Defenders once again eliminated the top seed, mirroring last year's championship run.
Now they return home seeking another title, with Bean set to face the team that traded him earlier this season.
Louisville Kings
Few teams have experienced a turnaround like Louisville.
After an 0-3 start, the Kings won six of their final seven regular-season games before advancing to the United Bowl Presented by Credit One Bank with a semifinal victory over St. Louis.
A major catalyst was quarterback Chandler Rogers, who took over in Week Five and immediately helped transform the offense. At the same time, Louisville's defense developed into the league's most opportunistic unit, finishing first in the UFL with 17 takeaways.
The Kings continued that formula in the postseason. Rogers protected the football, the rushing attack piled up 168 yards, and Louisville generated explosive plays throughout the afternoon. James Robinson broke free for a 53-yard touchdown on the opening drive, while Ian Wheeler added a 51-yard score in the fourth quarter.
The running game has become one of the league's most dangerous units. During their five-game winning streak, the Kings have averaged more than 170 rushing yards per game after ranking near the bottom of the league early in the season.
Special teams have also become a major weapon. Tanner Brown followed a historic regular season by drilling a UFL season-long 63-yard field goal in the semifinal. Last week, he became the first professional football kicker to connect on multiple field goals of 60 yards or longer in the same game, and it came on the biggest stage of the season.
Defensively, Louisville held St. Louis to 4-of-15 on third down and recorded four sacks. Jahiem Thomas led the team in tackles, Cam Gill contributed a sack, and Steele Chambers secured the game-clinching interception.
The Kings now head into another hostile environment with an opportunity to cap off their inaugural season with a championship.
A Quarterback Story Years in the Making:
One of the biggest storylines entering the United Bowl Presented by Credit One Bank centers around the quarterbacks.
Jason Bean began the season in Louisville before being traded to DC, where he helped guide the Defenders back to the championship game. Taking his place in Louisville was Chandler Rogers, who stepped in during Week Five and helped spark the Kings' remarkable turnaround.
The connection goes back even further. Bean and Rogers both attended Lake Ridge High School, and now the former teammates will meet on the biggest stage in spring football.
For Bean, it's an opportunity to prove himself against the organization that moved on from him. For Rogers, it's a chance to complete Louisville's turnaround and deliver a championship in the franchise's inaugural season.
Keys to Victory:
Protecting the football stands above everything else.
Louisville led the UFL in takeaways during the regular season, while DC finished second. Both defenses thrive on creating momentum-changing plays, making ball security critical on the biggest stage of the year.
The battle on the ground will also be pivotal.
The Defenders finished as the league's top rushing offense and rushed for 172 yards in their semifinal victory. Louisville has been equally dangerous during its winning streak, leaning on a physical rushing attack that has opened opportunities for Rogers and the passing game.
Whichever defense can slow the run will likely force the opposing quarterback into uncomfortable situations.
Third down could ultimately decide the championship.
DC advanced because of its ability to extend drives against Orlando, while Louisville earned its trip to the title game by consistently getting off the field against St. Louis. Success in those critical situations may determine who lifts the trophy Saturday afternoon.
Special teams could provide the deciding moment. McCrane and Brown both possess game-changing range and delivered four-point field goals in the semifinals. Once either offense crosses midfield, every possession becomes a potential scoring opportunity.
The stage is set for one final showdown.
Will the Defenders capture back-to-back championships in front of their home crowd, or will the Kings complete one of the most remarkable turnarounds in UFL history and claim a title in their inaugural season?
Kickoff for the 2026 United Bowl presented by Credit One Bank is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
