Meet the Market: St. Louis
  • Founded in the 1760’s, St. Louis is known as the “Gateway to the West.” With a rich variety of cultures from the settlers and immigrants who built the city, the metro area celebrates food, beverages and sports.
  • Standing at 630 feet tall, the Gateway Arch is the largest man-made monument in the country. The structure symbolizes the expansion westward of the United States and provides an anchor to downtown St. Louis.
  • The home to the world-renowned St. Louis Zoo, Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country, 500 acres larger than Central Park in New York City. In 1904, the park hosted the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, the greatest of the World's Fairs, which drew more than 19 million visitors from around the world. Forest Park is also home to the Art Museum, Science Center, Jewel Box greenhouse, the Missouri History Museum, The Muny theater, 7.5-mile biking, jogging and skating paths, a skating rink and lakes.
  • St. Louis is home to the Missouri Botanical Garden, the nation's oldest botanical garden in continuous operation and a National Historic Landmark. The Missouri Botanical Garden boasts 79 acres of beautiful horticultural display, including a 14-acre Japanese strolling garden, historic architecture, and one of the world's largest collections of rare and endangered flora.
  • St. Louis is also home to several historic sites. Located downtown, just across from the Gateway Arch, stands the Old Courthouse, which was the site for the Dred Scott case and also where Virginia Minor fought for a woman’s right to vote. The Ulysses S. Grant Historic site offers tours, which includes a look inside the former president’s log cabin.
