2025

• Re-signed with the Stallions on March 24, 2025, beginning his third stint in Birmingham.

2024

• Ended the regular season with 37 tackles (22 solos, 15 assists) and two sacks during seven games for the Stallions.
• Also added three tackles for loss, two passes defended and a forced fumble during regular season play.
• Continued his stellar play into the postseason, registering eight total tackles and a sack in two games played.

2022

• An All-USFL selection in his first season in the Magic City, played in nine of the 10 regular season games in 2022.
• Finished the regular season slate with 62 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three passes defended.
• A key contributor to claiming the inaugural USFL title, finished postseason play with 14 total tackles, 12 of which were solo, one tackle for loss, half a sack, three passes defended and a 71-yard interception that was returned for a touchdown in the second quarter of the South Division Finals against the New Orleans Breakers.
• Selected by the Stallions in the 29th round of the 2022 USFL Draft.

Prior to the Stallions

• Spent the 2022 and 2023 NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears, appearing in eight games total while in the Windy City.
• After going undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Gates embarked on a resilient professional journey, showcasing his talents across multiple leagues and teams, including stints with the Cleveland Browns, Memphis Express, Washington Redskins, Houston Roughnecks and Minnesota Vikings.
• His journey also took him to the Canadian Football League (CFL), where he contributed to the Saskatchewan Roughriders during the shortened 2021 regular season.
• Was selected in the eighth round of the 2020 XFL Draft by the Houston Roughnecks, had 32 tackles (second on the team) and 2.0 sacks (tied for the team lead) before the remainder of the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Joined the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football (AAF), led the AAF in tackles with 52 and forced fumbles with five before the league folded.
• A standout linebacker from Ole Miss, made his mark in college football by leading the team in tackles from 2015 to 2017, earning recognition as the first player to do so since Abdul Jackson in the early '90s.
• Played for Hugh Freeze and Matt Luke while at Ole Miss, appeared in 49 games with 282 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, nine passes defended, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery during his collegiate career.
• Member of the 2014 and 2015 Ole Miss teams that defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history.
