Defenders, Kings Rematch Set for Saturday in the ‘Ville
by Ethan Berch
ARLINGTON, TX – May 13, 2026 – Following Louisville’s massive upset win over DC on their home turf, the two teams are set to meet again this Saturday, this time in the ‘Ville. The Defenders suffered their first loss since Week One and will be seeking revenge, while the Kings need another victory to stay alive in the playoff race.
The expectation is a physical, high-intensity, scrappy battle between two teams with bad blood after last week’s heated showdown.
Storylines to watch:
DC Defenders
The Defenders were stunned at home in Week Seven, watching their five-game winning streak come to an end after a second-half collapse against Louisville. However, a win clinches them a playoff berth.
For the past two weeks, DC has been shut out in the second half. Last week, Jordan Ta’amu threw for nearly 300 yards in the first half and looked poised for a monster outing. But once momentum shifted, Ta’amu tossed two second-half interceptions. He is now tied for the league lead with seven interceptions this season.
Ta’amu has to protect the football.
It is also critical that the Defenders play a full four quarters. After being blanked in the second half in back-to-back weeks, all eyes will be on DC to start fast and finish stronger.
Despite entering last week as the worst rushing attack in the UFL, Louisville gashed DC for 145 yards on the ground. It is clear that once the Kings establish the run, quarterback Chandler Rogers becomes far more dangerous through the air.
There has to be an emphasis on stopping the run and forcing Rogers to beat them through the air. If DC’s defense can live in the backfield, as they have all season as the league sack leaders, they’ll hope to force Rogers into mistakes.
The Defenders also need to establish their own rushing presence. They have plenty of dynamic weapons in the receiving room, but they managed just 89 rushing yards last week against a Louisville defense that ranked near the bottom of the league against the run.
Deon Jackson ranks second in the UFL with 332 rushing yards and still leads the league with five rushing scores. Getting Jackson going should take pressure off Ta’amu and open the offense back up.
Louisville Kings
The Kings have breathed life back into their season with two defining wins since Chandler Rogers took over as QB1. First came a blowout win over Dallas, followed by last week’s statement victory over DC.
That game took a dramatic turn in the second quarter. DC’s Derick Roberson delivered a massive hit on Rogers and was flagged for unnecessary roughness. At the time, the Defenders led 13-3. Rogers responded after the hit and led Louisville to 27 unanswered points and the comeback win. The tension between Chandler Rogers and Derick Roberson will be one of the must-watch storylines this week.
It is absolutely essential that Rogers continues to involve the star power in his receiver room. Last week, Tarik Black was his favorite target with five catches and two touchdowns. Isaiah Winstead and Lucky Jackson added eight more receptions combined.
The key against DC’s lethal front seven is simple: get the ball out quickly and move the chains through efficiency. DC will make adjustments, so it’s on Louisville to put Rogers in favorable situations.
When Louisville wins, two things usually happen: they run the ball effectively and they force turnovers.
Last week, Ian Wheeler led the way with 64 rushing yards, while James Robinson added 58 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive coordinator Jaime Sharper dialed up an elite second-half game plan against his former team, pitching a shutout after halftime. Creating chaos and flipping the field in key moments will again be a major factor as the Kings chase an unexpected season sweep of the reigning champions.
X-Factor:
There is no doubt the more physical team will win this game.
If DC controls the trenches, limits Louisville’s rushing attack, and disrupts Rogers, they should put themselves in position to bounce back.
If Louisville feeds off the home crowd, flips field position, and protects the football, another upset could be looming.
